YACHT CHARTER GREECE  - YACHT SAILING IN GREECE

No other sailing area in the Mediterranean is as diverse as Greece!

Anyone who sails through the Cyclades can experience the italian-like, green islands of the Ionian Sea on their own or chartered sailing yacht, or visit the bare Cyclades islands,

scattered in a circle in the Aegean Sea with their boat!

In the far east, the 12 still lonely islands of the Dodecanese close to the Turkish coast with their charter bases in Samos, Kos and Rhodes.

Here you can particularly enjoy yacht sailing with catamarans in the bays.

PORTS IN GREECE

A lot has also happened in Greece's nautical infrastructure over the past 20 years.
Fortunately, the massive increase in nautical tourism has not yet reached the commercial density and level as elsewhere, but the old structures have been preserved and, in some cases, adapted somewhat.

As a result, most Greek ports have not degenerated into tourist garages, but offer originality and endearing Greek port life.

So the development - sigah, sigah - is taking place leisurely and slowly, but overall you can see that, in addition to some Marinas, many small harbors now often offer electricity and water, and the harbor quays have been partially expanded.

Nevertheless, the costs for a berth as a guest are reasonable - still.

Yacht sailors and other skippers must pay attention to the regionally different weather conditions in Greece and in particular the Meltemi wind situation in the Aegean.

YACHT MARINAS IN GREECE

Marinas have been built in some very frequented locations that also meet the usual comforts of a yacht marina: technical service, security, water, electricity, etc. are available there.

The most important Yacht Marinas

in Greece from west to east are:

Marina Gouvia
A very big and well equipped and organized Marina on the island of Corfu

Preveza Marina
A not so biig, but pretty sophisticated Marina next to the town of Preveza

Lefkas Marina
the very big Marina houses the most chartercompanies of the area. Very nice island of Lefkada

Both, Preveza and Lefkas are located on the mainland southeast of Corfu island

Patras - a big ferry port (italian ferries) and a small Marina, which is not very well guarded, unfortunately. Patras has 500.000 inhabitants, so it´s a very big town

Athens - Alimos Kalamaki

A  very big Marina with all the greekl chartercompanies at spot.
There are a few other marinas around Athens, but they are private ans not accessible for the public.

Lavrion - Marina

busy Marina (parking garage atmosphere), but close to Athens and good for trips to the Aegean. The charter companies are all based in the city port of Lavrion.

Thessaloniki-Aretsou Marina
located just outside and approx. 250 berths

Mykonos - Marina
4 km from Mykonos town accessible by bus and taxi. The Marina is unguarded and service (water) is only on demand

Samos Marina
right next to Pythagorean, close to the airport

Leros has 2 Marinas: AGMAR and Leros Marina Marina, AGMAR is a private Marina with inwater moorings in Lakki (town) and has yachting berths in the drydock (winter storage) directly at Leros airport on the northern side of Leros and offers excellent technical support.
In Lakki, the Marina has excellent technical support and is well recommended by liveaboards.

Kos Marina

one of the most beautiful and pleasant Marinas

Rhodes Marina

expensive marina with high standards, new since 2016, in unfortunately not very nice environment and located about 2 km from the old town

Many smaller ports on the Greek islands or private shipyards offer services for yachts and also winter berths for boats, it's sometimes worth asking on site!
